How to achieve a Collaborative, no-court divorce in Alberta
In a typical divorce, one side tries to beat the other.
In a Collaborative Divorce, everyone works together to reach mutually acceptable out-of-court agreements that are in the best interests of every family member. In simpler words, it’s called a “good divorce”.
Here is how the Collaborative process works:
Step #1:
You and your partner choose the Collaborative process to achieve an agreement with dignity and respect.
Step #2:
You meet with a Collaborative professional to discuss your case, which could be a Collaborative Family Lawyer, a Family Specialist, a Divorce Coach, or a Financial Professional.
Step #3:
You and your partner sign the Participation Agreement, and agree to provide full disclosure, a necessary step as honesty and courtesy are required to make the Collaborative process work.
Step #4:
You and your partner attend joint meetings with the Collaborative team to exchange information, define the needs and expectations of each partner. The work continues until there is a mutually-acceptable resolution of all issues.
Step #5:
The Collaborative Family Lawyers confirm that all paperwork has been properly drafted and is legally-enforceable.
